Top 5 v St Kilda - Trial game
Travis Boak
I thought he was best on ground in my view. Led from the front, spent much more time in the midfield than he did last week and performed as we came to expect last year. Looks super fit, plenty of run and carry and real gut running to provide options. Plenty of times he got involved two or three times in a possession string by running 100 metres to continuously give his teammates options. Two nice goals and gave off at least one as well. He'll be ready to go bang next week.
Angus Monfries
Thought he was our best for much of the day with Boak overtaking him late. Played a lot further up the field in more of a genuine midfield role and he performed excellently. Copped about four or five really rough hits, but got up and kept going. Won heaps of the ball and delivered it well inside 50. Really liked him in more of a genuine midfielder's role.He still snuck forward on occasion but wasn't able to trouble the scorers. Looking forward to see if he can better his 2013 this year.
Brad Ebert
Another big name who was switched on and had a ripper game today. Was floating back across the back lines winning plenty of the ball, then running forward to provide an option into attack. Once again, he used it well and didn't really put a foot wrong all day. A clear improvement from last week. Love the way, similar to Boak, he gut runs to provide options all over the park.

What a performance to celebrate the announcement of his signing. Such a strong body over the ball; no one can knock him off when he has his head down and wants to win possession. Such a clever user of the ball as well; his handballing is very good, his kicking is strong and he just picks the smart option most of the time. Given his performances so far, you cant help but feel he is in for a massive year and I cant wait to see him get more game time than last year.
John Butcher
Such a good and exciting game today. He kicked three goals, took a number of strong marks and dished off at least two goals as well. He presented better than I've seen him do since 2011. Still had one shank, but 3.1 from four scoring shots is something you'd take every day of the week. His repeat leading was something that I enjoyed and something I haven't seen him do for a couple of years now. You just get a sense that now that he seems to be fit he can do the things he hasn't done for a while now, such as leading strongly and crashing a few packs. Well in the best players.

Stunning. That right there is why the club was so excited it was able to pick him up. So quick, so smart with the ball, so strong defensively. That performance would lock him into my Round 1 side now. I thought he was out after last week, but he's well back in now. Would have been in our top three players on the ground. Just his physical attributes are worth special mention. His lateral movement is Judd-like in how he seems to change direction instantly without having to slow down. Was fantastic under pressure in getting out of trouble with players breathing down his neck. Got around opposition in front of him with relative ease. His ability to mark the ball high and then bound off is great. His kicking today was the best I've seen of it all pre-season. That performance has got me so excited to see what he can do this year.
