Peter Badcoe VC Medal tradition continues
Port Adelaide will again present the Peter Badcoe VC Medal to the player who best exemplifies the ANZAC spirit in Sunday's ANZAC Round game between the Power and Cats.
Major Badcoe was killed in action during the Vietnam War and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross - the highest military decoration in the Australian Honours System - which accords 'recognition to persons who in the presence of the enemy, perform acts of the most conspicuous gallantry, or daring or pre-eminent acts of valour or self-sacrifice; or display extreme devotion to duty.'
He was only one of four Australians from the Vietnam War to receive the honour.

Port Adelaide has presented the Peter Badcoe VC Medal with the permission of the Badcoe family continuously since 2004 during ANZAC Round home games.
Where the club does not host a game during ANZAC Round, it has presented the medal in the preceding home match in line with preferences of the Returned and Services League.
Seven Port Adelaide players have been awarded the medal with Hamish Hartlett the most recent recipient.
Three non-Power players - Lenny Hayes, Michael Rischitelli and Josh Kennedy - have also won the medal.
It is presented to the player whose conduct and play during the game best demonstrates the ANZAC spirit and qualities of skill, courage in adversity, self-sacrifice, teamwork and fair play.
Major Badcoe’s sister Thelma Kelton will present the Medal for the first time at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
