ROBBIE GRAY will be reviewed on Thursday ahead of the Power’s team selection for Showdown XXXVIII after being pulled out of last Saturday’s win over Hawthorn due to a calf injury.
The injury suffered at training is not believed serious, but will require a proper review during the week before he’s considered to face the Crows, according to Port Adelaide’s head of high performance Darren Burgess.
“He’ll be assessed this week, he just needs to get through training,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“He’s pain free today, which is obviously a very good sign, but we won’t run him until Thursday, so we won’t know until then.”
No injuries were reported from the Power’s eight-point win over Hawthorn, however Jared Polec was subbed from the match as part of his ongoing body management.
Burgess says that while Polec is able to continue playing, he is working through a small rehab program on his ankle.
“He’s got some ongoing ankle issues that we’re managing, so it’s just best for him early in the week in the first couple of days after the game to be off his legs,” Burgess explained.
“He ran during the main training last week, so he was on his feet for our main training session.
Ollie Wines has also entered the final month of his wrist rehab and is expected to have his full cast removed next week.
Not expected to lose any of his conditioning during the recovery, Wines will be further assessed once free of the plaster.
Paul Stewart is also expected be cleared to play Woodville-West Torrens this week after suffering a concussion against Norwood on Friday.
He will however need to pass all routine concussion checks before being considered for Saturday’s home game against the Eagles.
“He was moving around fine after the match, so we expect him to be OK to play this week,” Burgess said.
“We’ll go through all the usual checks required of a concussed player though.”
