THURSDAY night's game between Port Adelaide and Collingwood will pay tribute to the late Phil Walsh, with both clubs agreeing to commemorations for the game.
The game marks the first time Port Adelaide - where Walsh spent 11 seasons as an assistant coach and is a life member - has played a game of football since passing away on Friday.
Players from both clubs will wear black armbands and pause for one minute's silence before the start of the match.
Collingwood has also agreed to a request from Port Adelaide that no club theme songs be played during the run out and that traditional run-through banners not be used.
Power players will not run out to Rudimenta's "Not Giving In", however its tradtitional pre-bounce anthem "Never Tear Us Apart" will remain.
Walsh's first VFL club was Collingwood, where he played under legendary Port coach John Cahill and alongside other famous Port Adelaide names Mark Williams and Greg Phillips.
Port Adelaide's chief executive Keith Thomas says it's appropriate to put many of the traditional pre-match aspects of the Power's game day on hold.
“This is our first game since Phil’s tragic passing and we know the entire Port Adelaide community want to pause and reflect on his wonderful contribution to our club and the broader football world,” Thomas said.
“As such we feel it appropriate to honour Phil by wearing black armbands and sharing a minute’s silence with Collingwood, Phil’s first VFL club as a player.
“We also believe that both club’s theme songs and run out banners can be put on hold for a week in respect to Phil and his family.
“To this end we sincerely thank Collingwood for agreeing to these requests given they honoured Phil last Friday night in their game against Hawthorn.
“Phil was a much-loved friend of Port Adelaide and will forever be part of our community. Thursday night will be very special and we welcome all football supporters to come along and pay their respects to Phil and his family.”
