1. A born basketballer
Charlie was born in Cairns and grew up playing basketball where he excelled at a junior state level.
It wasn’t until his brother convinced him to pick up a Sherrin that he made the move to Football at the age of 15. He played for the Redland Bombers in Brisbane before signing with the Gold Coast.
2. He’s enormous
In short, Dixon is a huge unit.
At 200cm and 105 kilos, Dixon is the biggest forward in the competition – he joins resident giants Matthew Lobbe and Justin Westhoff here at Alberton.
3. He played ‘half blind’ in his first few years
It was only after he took advice to get his eyes checked in 2011 that Dixon found he had been playing ‘half blind’ for a good portion of his career.
His marking ability improved tremendously after he started wearing contact lenses.
“I could always see the ball coming in, but they are definitely giving me a bit of help,” he said back in 2011.
It takes a special player to make it in the AFL, and Dixon somehow managed to do it blind as a bat!
4. He holds a pretty impressive title with the Suns
Dixon departs the Gold Coast as the man who kicked the club’s first ever goal, in Round 2, 2011 against Carlton.
He’s also kicked the second highest number of goals across Gold Coast’s five-year history with 95, and holds the club record for most goals in a game with seven.
His powerful marking ability and accuracy infront of goal is a welcome addition to the Power forward line, where he’s expected to form an intimidating partnership with Jay Schulz.

5. He’ll be reunited with early coaching staff at PAFC
Dixon arrived at the Gold Coast Suns as a 17-year-old where he met assistant coaches Ken Hinkley and Shaun Hart.
Now the head coach and director of coaching at Port Adelaide, Dixon will reunite with the duo for his new career at Alberton.
6. His beard game is very, very strong
Dixon has only just walked through the doors here at Alberton, but he already has a reputation of having one of the most beastly beards the club’s ever seen. Alongside Westhoff, Jacko, Youngy and Butch, Port Adelaide might just be sporting the most impressive chin curtain in the modern competition.
When questioned about his new beard-rivals at Port Adelaide, his response was simple:
“I look forward to the challenge,” he said.
7. He’s a charity man
If you see him sporting some flashy blue laces, it’s because he has #lacedforhugo. Charlie has been an ambassador for the autism awareness foundation since August last year, and proudly wears the laces on his shoes to support them.
A community club first and foremost, he’ll fit right in here at Port Adelaide.
Great to have @GoldCoastSUNS forward @charlie_dixon23 as an ambassador. Full story on our facebook #lacedforautism pic.twitter.com/JSuBapXygR

8. He featured in the top 10 of the Sun’s Club Champion awards this year
Charlie had a fantastic season with the Suns in 2015 and earned himself sixth place at the best and fairest awards - an admirable effort considering that he managed to play only 16 games. He kicked 41 goals in 2015; an average of 2.6 per game.
9. His favourite sport is NFL
Despite being a gifted basketballer when he was young and pursuing professional football as a career, Dixon’s favourite sport is actually NFL!
It’s not unlike other Port Adelaide stars such as Chad Wingard and Robbie Gray who openly say their hearts lie with basketball.
10. Man’s best friend
They say a dog is a man’s best friend, and Dixon’s American Staffy, Otis is no exception. He’ll be making the move to Adelaide with Charlie in 2016! Stay tuned to #petsofportadelaide for his arrival!
