NATHAN Krakouer will miss up to a month after pulling his hamstring at training during the week.
Hoping to make his return against the Demons this week, Krakouer will instead go into rehab after injuring his hamstring in a training session last Wednesday.
He will be on track to return for Round 1, according to Port Adelaide’s high performance manager Darren Burgess.
“It’s really disappointing for Krak, because he was looking good to play this week with the rest of the blokes.
“It’s just one of those things that happens sometimes, unfortunately it means a month on the sidelines.
“We’re hoping he’ll be good by Easter – which means Round 1.”
The news is better further down the injury list.
Logan Austin could make his long-awaited return from shoulder surgery this weekend after being listed as available on Port Adelaide’s injury list.
Austin, 20, was pulled out of the 2015 SANFL season early to undergo a shoulder operation, and has spent much of the summer in rehab.
He will no doubt be considered to line-up for either the Power or Magpies in trial games this Saturday.
With no injuries reported from its narrow 21-point loss to Sydney last Saturday, Port Adelaide is shaping nicely ahead of the season proper.
Charlie Dixon (meniscus – 2-3 weeks) and Billy Frampton (foot – 3 weeks) may scrape at least one trial game before the start of the season proper.
Rookie Dan Houston is Port’s only medium-term prospect – still another six weeks from returning from a hip/groin issue.
Steven Summerton may also report for his first duty of the year this weekend with a back assessment to take place during the week.
Should he miss the Magpies’ trial against the Adelaide Crows, he will be likely to front up against reigning premier West Adelaide at Richmond the following week.
