The Port Adelaide Football Club is mourning the passing last week of premiership player and state representative Ron Luke.
Luke, who passed away last week at the age of 86, debuted for Port Adelaide in 1950 after arriving at the club from the small mid-north town of Tarcowie as one of the new breed of Magpies to be blooded under then first-year coach Fos Williams.
His career was short – just 46 games – but decorated.
He represented South Australia, and played in the club’s 1951 premiership.
In 1953 he played in the Australian National Football Carnival against the VFL, VFA, Tasmania and Western Australian teams.
Notable for his ability to kick on both sides, Luke’s career was ended by a knee injury in 1954, preventing him from continuing into Port’s super era of six straight premierships.
His brother, Brian, was a triple-premiership player.
Port Adelaide extends its condolences to Beryl, Gregory, Vietha, Martin, Ann, Brian and Elaine and the extended Luke family.
Lorraine Obst
Port Adelaide also extended its sympathies to the Obst family over the weekend following the passing of Lorraine Obst, wife of the late Trevor ‘Bubbles’, and grandmother of Brad Ebert.
Lorraine passed away at the age of 72, and is remembered fondly as an important part of the Port Adelaide family.
Port Adelaide extends its condolences to Lorraine's family; Christine and Craig, Jenny and Ross, Tania, Adam, Brad, Rebecca, Andrew and Ashleigh and the extended Obst family.
