PORT Adelaide’s manic defensive pressure on Friday night helped it equal a single-season tackling record – still with at least eight games to play.

The Round 15 clash with Richmond was the fifth time in 2016 the Power has recorded 90 or more tackles in a game – equalling the mark set by Sydney in 2011 and Essendon in 2010.


Port Adelaide had a whopping 65 tackles in the first half on their way to equalling their season-high of 106 tackles.

Travis Boak set the tone with 11 tackles, while forward Aaron Young set a career-high with 10 tackles.

The Power are currently ranked second in the AFL (behind Sydney) for tackles per game with 80.7, up on their 2015 average of 72 – which also ranked them second in the AFL.

Port Adelaide is ranked No.1 in the AFL for tackle efficiency at 73.6%.

Brad Ebert is the Power’s leading tackler with 94 and is ranked ninth in the AFL, while Ollie Wines averages more than six per game with 87 for the season.

Port Adelaide’s all-time record for tackles also came against Richmond – in the wet back in Round 10, 2010.
