First Quarter

Port Adelaide started the quarter slowly and were outmuscled early by Adelaide, but the visitors could not capitalise on the scoreboard, only managing a behind.

Jesse Palmer was inaccurate at the other end for Port and it was Jake Neade who finally booted the first goal of the match with seven minutes gone.

The Magpies’ midfield began working harder and clearing the ball out of the middle and, what followed, was three unanswered goals to Schulz, Snelling and Tom Gray to open up a 24-point lead.

The Crows were not going to lie down that easily and it was not long before Keenan Ramsey got the visitors on the board.

Late goals to Dylan Schoenmakers and Cam Ellis-Yolman cut Port’s lead to seven points.

Second Quarter

It was goal-for-goal early with Tom Gray getting Port off to the perfect start with his second goal, but Adelaide responded quickly with a major to Curtly Hampton after he won a free following a holding the ball decision inside 50.

The Crows heaped on the pressure with strong tackles and ran harder to win the loose ball.

Unable to handle the pressure in attack, the Magpies made decision-making errors and a goal to Scott Spriggs tied the score before Hugh Greenwood put Adelaide six points ahead.

Robbie Young and Neade battled hard and had opportunities to snatch back the lead, but too many inaccurate handballs under pressure inside 50 allowed the Crows to mop up and run down the corridor into attack.

Adelaide created space and their superior second quarter gave them a 14-point lead at the main break.

Third Quarter

Adelaide extended its half-time lead with two quick goals – the first to Troy Menzel after a poor Port Adelaide kick coming out of defence - and the second from Dean Gore.

Kane Mitchell and Louis Sharrad worked hard to break through the midfield and stream forward, while Neade was soon awarded a free inside 50 and slotted his second.

The confidence started building for the home side and a sliding mark from Schulz and a goal from the boundary combined with Matt White’s first goal in the prison bars narrowed the deficit to seven points.

But the Crows steadied after Port gave away two free kicks with majors to Paul Hunter and Harry Dear, and the margin was soon back out to 19 points.

A strong pack mark from Billy Frampton - which led to his first goal for the afternoon - was quickly followed up by a snap from Tom Gray as the youngster claimed his third major.

Time eventually ran out and the Crows took a seven point advantage into the final break.

Fourth Quarter

The Crows were quick out of the blocks and Wayne Milera booted the first goal for the quarter, five minutes in.

Both sides went goal-for-goal during the next five minutes.

For Port, it was a third major to Schulz and one to Luke Reynolds which, coupled with a rushed behind, put the black and white faithful on the edge of their seats as the Magpies inched closer to an upset, getting within one straight kick.

The Crows, however, found another gear again and cleared the ball with ease at the centre bounce.

A goal to Ellis-Yolman 13 minutes in inspired Adelaide as they went on to slot two more unanswered majors.

Similar to the first half, the home side squandered the few opportunities it had late in the quarter to produce an unlikely victory with poor skills, an inability to find a clean target and too many handballs.

Adelaide claimed its second SANFL Showdown win of the year, this time by 25 points.
