PORT ADELAIDE has routed North Melbourne with an emphatic eight-goal-to-two opening quarter.

Rarely challenged in the Saturday afternoon contest in front of 34-thousand spectators, the Power put the game away early and built on its lead across the next three quarters.

Chad Wingard starred for the Power in the first term with three goals to his name to help establish Port's early 37-point half time advantage.

When Sam Gray slotted his first two, and Hamish Hartlett launched a bomb from outside 50 just before the quarter time siren, the Power had all but iced the game.

While North chipped away at the lead in the second term, Port's momentum was enough to keep its healthy buffer intact.

Brad Ebert (30 disposals, 14 clearances, 5 tackles) was superior in the midfield, while Paddy Ryder again dominated the ruck in a continuation of his strong recent form.

It's an important victory for the Power after last week's win over West Coast - the fourth time this year they've been able to put back-to-back wins together.

Port travels to Melbourne next week to take on the fifth-ranked Demons at the MCG in a significant battle for the top four on Saturday 22 July at 2.10pm AEST.
