Port Adelaide today continued its post-season recruiting with the addition of delisted free agent Trent McKenzie to its 2018 playing stocks.
McKenzie, who played 106 games for the Gold Coast Suns since his debut in 2011, joins the Power on a one-year deal.
The 25-year old leaves the Gold Coast after being part of the Suns inaugural AFL squad and playing the fourth most senior games since the club’s inception.
Port Adelaide list manager Jason Cripps says McKenzie will add important depth and experience to the Power’s 2018 list.
“Trent joins us after seven seasons within the AFL system and over 100 games with the Suns so we believe he’ll bring some valuable experience to our playing group,” said Cripps.
“When Trent is fit we are all aware of his talent, particularly by foot, and we think he can certainly fill a need for us in that area.
“We are confident that our high-performance team will ensure Trent has the best opportunity to maximise his career here at Port Adelaide.”
McKenzie says he is delighted to be given a chance to prove himself at Alberton.
“Port Adelaide has great appeal for me. On-field they play a high energy, exciting brand of football and off-field I’m looking forward to being reunited with Ken Hinkley and working with their high-performance team to ensure I can get the best out of my ability,” said McKenzie.
“Right now though, I just can’t wait to start at the club and look to win the respect of my teammates, coaches and the Port Adelaide supporters over the upcoming pre-season.”
McKenzie will officially join his new teammates at Port Adelaide at pre-season training on Monday 27 November.
