PORT ADELAIDE has elected to retain its team song for the 2018 AFL Premiership Season and beyond.
The AFL re-recorded team songs for 15 of the 18 clubs claiming many were old recordings with diminishing quality.
The Power has chosen not to adopt the new recording and instead keep the version it has used, apart from a minor update, since the club’s inception in 1997.
Port Adelaide’s Executive General Manager Matthew Richardson said the club’s players would run onto Adelaide Oval on Saturday to open their season against Fremantle to the same song the club had used previously.
“Players, members and supporters have a familiarity with our club song and we see no need to change it,” Richardson said.
“It is the song we sang after winning the 2004 AFL Premiership and it is the song we hope to be singing after every game for many more years to come.”
Port Adelaide’s song “Power to Win” was first played at AFL level at Football Park after the Power’s first home-and-away win over Geelong in round 3, 1997.
