PORT ADELAIDE bounced back from their loss to Woodville West Torrens last week with a strong 40-point victory over Adelaide at Alberton Oval.

Both sides struggled to hit the scoreboard in the first quarter, with the Magpies kicking 1.6 to the Crows’ 2.0.

Port Adelaide Captain Steve Summerton was influential in the first term, and a smart snap from the pocket tied the scores late in the quarter.

Neither team could control the contest in the opening half, with most of the footy being played through the middle of the ground.

The Magpies gained a slight ascendency nearing the half time siren, taking a 10-point lead into the main break.

Port Adelaide dominated the third quarter, kicking six goals to none, to break the game wide open.

Consistent pressure from the Magpies didn’t allow the Crows to make clean entries into their forward 50, with Jack Trengove leading from the front.

Jack Hombsch was a general in defence, while Will Snelling and Jimmy Toumpas found plenty of the football around the ground.

Jake Neade and Lindsay Thomas were both lively around the contest, as the Magpies took a 45-point advantage into the final term.

Hombsch, Jarrod Lienert and Trent McKenzie were all very strong in the back half, resisting any attacking play the Crows could muster.

A two-goal to one final term by the Crows reduced the margin to 40 points at the final siren.

It was an impressive final pre-season performance by the Magpies, who will take many positives into their season-opener against the Crows at Alberton Oval next Saturday.
