VICE-CAPTAIN Ollie Wines almost had the perfect game against Sydney in the eyes of the coaches.
Wines polled highest of all of Port Adelaide’s players in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award.
The 23-year-old polled nine of a possible ten votes after racking up a game-high 35 disposals – 19 of those contested.
He also laid six tackles, had 12 clearances and booted a nice goal, snapping from the pack in the second quarter.
Wines now has 10 votes after two games, taking him to equal sixth overall.
Charlie Dixon attracted eight votes from the coaches after stepping into the ruck and performing admirably against the Swans.
The big man’s efforts were a huge part of the Power’s resurgent second half.
Robbie Gray grabbed six votes, while Captain Travis Boak and utility Justin Westhoff polled one each.
Sydney’s Lance Franklin’s four-goal effort was rewarded with five votes and he was the only Swan to get votes from the game.
Shannon Hurn (West Coast), Rory Laird (Adelaide), Ben Brown (North Melbourne), Tom Lynch (Gold Coast), Stephen Coniglio (GWS), Nathan Wilson (Fremantle) and Tom Mitchell (Hawthorn) all received the maximum ten votes from the AFL coaches.
It’s the second week in a row that Mitchell has received the maximum votes, taking him into the outright lead.
