Jared Polec has praised his side’s ability to implement its game plan when defending a narrow lead late in the contest in the nailbiting five-point win over Brisbane on Saturday afternoon.

Polec was amongst Port Adelaide’s best against his old side, racking up 29 touches, 12 marks, three score assists, and gaining 619 metres for the match.

Perhaps his most vital contribution came in the dying seconds at Adelaide Oval when he marked on the line to prevent a goal, and help the Power hold on for a 14.13.97 to 14.8.92 win.

He said the side was happy to grind out a victory against a brave Brisbane outfit but needed to move on quickly to next week’s match-up against Essendon.

“The really took it to us and we learnt a bit from last year in that last minute of the game with the stoppage and it was just good that we implemented our game plan and it came off right at the end” he said.

“They were outnumbering us at the contest and working a lot harder than we were and really took it to us with the running game so it was good that we fought back and ended up with the victory.

“In the end they just really took it to us and full credit to Brisbane and how they went about it.”

While it was a less than polished performance from the Power at home, Polec said the side needed to readjust its focus to taking on the Bombers in Melbourne on Sunday afternoon.

“I think now it’s four points and move on,” he said.

“We’ve got a big game next week against Essendon after what they did against us last year so we want to come out and get ready to play against them.”
