PORT ADELAIDE Head of Development Aaron Greaves says vice-captain Ollie Wines will be fit to face Essendon on Sunday, while running defender Jasper Pittard should be available for selection for his first game of the season.

Wines rolled his ankle just before half time in the Power’s narrow five-point win over Brisbane on Saturday afternoon and limped from the field.

The 23-year-old returned to the field to manage 25 disposals, four clearances and four tackles as his side held on for a nail-biting win.

“Ollie was just a rolled ankle so he seems to be ok and he’ll probably just have a lesser week,” Greaves said.

“But we expect him to come through.”

Dan Houston suffered from concussion and left the field late in the game after a knock to the head and Greaves said he would be monitored in the lead-in to the Essendon game.

In better news, Greaves confirmed Jasper Pittard was nearly ready to resume, after hurting a hamstring during the Power’s final JLT Community Series game against Adelaide.

“Jasper’s going really well,” Greaves said.

“He trained strongly last week, he’ll have a full week this week and we’d expect him to be available for selection this week.”

While Port Adelaide was far from convincing against a dogged Brisbane side, it remains the only AFL team unbeaten after three games.

Greaves said each of those encounters had provided a different challenge, and there were plenty of positives to take out of the win over the Lions.

“There were areas of our game defensively, offensively and in the contest that we really liked and we can see our growth - and there’s areas of our game that we can work on as well,” he said.

“We’ve been able to start the year 3-0, we’ve won a tight game, we’ve had three different challenges and in each of those games there are things we need to review and we’re working through but to sit here and say there’s something that’s not working in our game, I think we’re not in that place.”
