PORT ADELAIDE forward Charlie Dixon has given a frank assessment of his goal-kicking performance against West Coast, describing it as “garbage”.

Dixon booted one goal and three behinds to go with two out on the full during the 42-point loss to the Eagles.

He had 14 disposals with a game-low overall efficiency of 35.7% and his goal accuracy was even lower at just 14.3%.

“I kicked 1.3 and two out on the full, that’s garbage,” Dixon said, during an interview on Triple M.

“I’m a forward, that’s my craft and I’ve got to be better than that because that’s unacceptable.

“I was very quiet in the first half, I wasn’t good enough and I did play a bit deeper in the second half.

“Of course I like playing closer to goal but it’s what my team wants from me and I’m going to do whatever I can for the team.”

Dixon wasn’t alone in his team when it came to a disappointing performance, and like his coach and captain, he has singled out the contested possession count as a key indicator of where the Power has been falling down.

“We’re getting smashed in that in the last four weeks and it’s not good enough, our contest isn’t good enough, we just aren’t doing it well enough for long enough,” Dixon said.

“It’s something we pride ourselves on but we just haven’t been bringing it for the last few games.”

The Power will be out to arrest a five-game losing streak against cross-town rivals Adelaide in Saturday’s Showdown between the sides.

Dixon said the West Coast game had been reviewed and the leadership group had decided it needed to step up against the Crows.

“It drives from us leaders as well,” he said.

“We’re out on the ground and we’ve got to be ruthless with our boys and make sure that we’re doing everything we can for the team.”
