PORT ADELAIDE has fallen to its third successive loss in the SANFL, after going down by 32 points to West Adelaide.

The Bloods kicked away in the second quarter and were never headed, after a run of five straight goals.

Trent McKenzie and Jack Trengove, fresh from a flight home from Shanghai after being unused emergencies for the Power’s clash against Gold Coast, were among the Magpies best on a gloomy day at Alberton.

The Magpies had the ideal start when Jack Kluske found himself running into an open goal to kick start the scoring inside the first three minutes.

Sam Davidson got on the end of some nice build up to boot his side’s second goal of the game after Ken Karpany benefited from a two-on-one situation inside forward 50 to get West’s first.

The visitors broke the game open with six of the next seven goals including five in a row, which saw an eight-point lead at the first break become a 33-point buffer at half time.

The Bloods’ composure across half back and the pace of AFL draft hopeful Izak Rankine across half forward proved too much for the Magpies and Rankine and Karpany had two goals each at the main break.

Port Adelaide had won the last four encounters between the sides by an average margin of 80-points and it was clear that West was keen to atone.

It was more of the same early in the third term when Mason Middleton booted another for the Bloods, but Port hit back with the next two goals through Kane Farrell, with a classy finish after marking next to the point post, and Sam Hayes who was awarded a mark at the second attempt and kicked truly from 15 metres.

West again had the answers though with three straight to close out the term and open up a 43-point lead.

Jono Beech took a contender for mark of the year on centre wing before later slotting his second from a tight angle to add to his highlight reel.

The last term started at a different pace with both sides spraying scoring opportunities.

The Magpies were patient and dominated possession before Jake Patmore finally broke the deadlock after eleven minutes.

The home side’s movement was slow and they lacked options inside 50, but the effort of the players couldn’t be questioned.

Davidson added his second and Patmore slotted a delightful goal from the bowling club pocket to give the home side a sniff with about 10 minutes to play but when Lachie Evans booted his first league goal, the result was sealed.

The 32-point win was West’s first against Port since round 22 2013.
