Port Adelaide is saddened by the passing of Premiership player John Edward Dewhirst
THE Port Adelaide Football Club is saddened by the passing of Premiership player John Edward Dewhirst.
The 82-year-old was part of the club’s golden era in which it won six SANFL Premierships in-a-row.
This remains an Australian record.
John played off half back and kicked one goal in his 13 games, which included the 1957 Grand Final win over Norwood.
John was present as the record holders were honoured as the first Premiership team to be inducted into the Port Adelaide Football Club Hall of Fame, at a gala event in Adelaide earlier this year.
John died surrounded by family on Friday.
His loss will be felt by all at Port Adelaide, including his former club mates.
The Port Adelaide Football Club sends its condolences to John’s wife Bev and his family and friends.
