REVIEWING the 2018 AFL season, today’s focus is on the club’s major tacklers.

Brad Ebert was a clear standout when it came to the player who laid the most tackles but if Sam Powell-Pepper had played more games, he would have been right at the top of the leaderboard given both averaged 6.1 tackles per game.

Ebert was one of just six Port Adelaide players to play every game in 2018 and he set the tone in terms of getting his hands dirty for the team.

His 134 tackles had him ranked 11th in the AFL but he was some 52 tackles, or 2 per game behind the leader, Devon Smith from Essendon.

Ebert’s 6.1 tackles per game is up from his career average of 5.3 per game and his career-best 14 tackles came against Geelong in Round 5.

He also managed to have nine tackles or more on five occasions including 11 tackles against both North Melbourne in Round 6 and the Western Bulldogs in Round 19.

Powell-Pepper ranked fourth at the club for total tackles but he did set a club record when he recorded 17 tackles against Melbourne in Round 14.

The 20-year-old also had nine tackles in Round 2 against Sydney and 10 tackles against Gold Coast in Shanghai in Round 9.

Ollie Wines, Justin Westhoff and captain Travis Boak round out the club’s top five tacklers.
