A SANFL premiership winner with Sturt in 2016, Lienert won the SANFL's Star Search award in the same year and was rewarded with a rookie contract by Port Adelaide. A smart defender who can also play on the wing, Lienert is renowned for his booming right foot and ability to play on small or tall forwards.
2018 was a breakthrough year for Lienert, with the rebounding defender marking his AFL debut against GWS in Round 18. He stayed in the senior side for the rest of the season. From his six games, he 17.3 touches and 6.3 marks a game. 2019 and 2020 proved frustrating for the 195cm backman who could only manage seven and five games in those seasons as pressure for spots in Port’s backline increased. Having earned a one-year contract extension at the end of 2020, Lienert will be eager to add to his 18 AFL games after a big pre-season in 2021.
