Monfries was a standout in the club’s opening round NAB Cup matches against St Kilda and Adelaide before suffering a hamstring strain in the final minutes against the Crows.
Butcher has recovered from hip surgery undergone in August 2012.
They headline the return of three other plays including previously injured ruckman Brent Renouf, midfielder Matt Thomas and tall forward Daniel Stewart.
It will be the first time that the ruck trio of Renouf, Jarrad Redden and Matthew Lobbe have taken the field together.
Jay Schulz and Paul Stewart have been rested from this game, along with Darren Pfeiffer and Brendon Ah Chee.
The squad will be trimmed to 26 prior to the game. Both teams will be able to play with eight on the interchange bench. The game will consist of four 30 minute quarters with no time on.
