But there was still plenty of action on a sodden weekend in Adelaide.
Development manager Daniel Healy was at the Parade to see the Redlegs wipe the floor of Glenelg by 102 points on Friday night.
Matt Thomas was named the club’s SANFL Player of the Week for his 28-disposal effort for the Redlegs.
He also had seven marks, five clearances and two inside-50s playing across half-forward.
“It was a pretty good game again from Thommo,” Healy told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“So he’s probably back to the form levels we expect from him – he had some really good numbers and was influential on what was a pretty good night to be a Norwood player.”
Lewis Stevenson also impressed Healy with good defensive work and an attacking mindset throughout the night.
“Lewy was really good again offensively and had 23 possessions and four inside 50s,” said Healy.
“He kicked the ball beautifully and was reasonable at the contest, - it’s good to say that he looks really confident when the footy’s in his hands as well.”
Darren Pfeiffer was again lively for the Redlegs but couldn’t impact the scoreboard beyond one goal, while Brent Renouf could only manage 14 hit outs and 15 touches.
Unsurprisingly the Power’s Glenelg-aligned players struggled to get involved in the game.
Cameron Hitchcock couldn’t find the goals on a tough night to be a Tiger forward, while Tom Clurey started in attack before being switched into defence partway through the game.
The match between the Eagles and North Adelaide at Woodville was a stark contrast to Norwood’s triumph – with a late free giving the home side a kick after the siren to secure a narrow two-point win.
Campbell Heath and Nick Salter played for the victors.
Development coach Stuart Cochrane said Heath’s match was “a game of two halves.”
“He had only two touches to half time and he let a couple of players get around him and score goals,” Cochrane told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“The positive was his second half where he managed to rebound and get his hands on the footy and show a bit of drive out of half back.
“His ball use was generally pretty good and he didn’t run himself into any trouble, but it would have been good to see him play that way right from the start.”
Nick Salter had a quiet showing for the Eagles, but managed one goal on the back of some quality defensive pressure.
“It was a scrappy game from Salts, he didn’t look like doing much damage for most of the game,” said Cochrane.
“I did think he was trying hard though and his effort was noticeable.”
Nathan Blee was the Power’s only player at North Adelaide and had a quiet showing in defence.
“Blee started as a spare man down back and provided a bit of run from defence,” said Cochrane.
“The effort was there to provide an option running out of defence, but he didn’t have much of an impact.”
Both Kane Mitchell and Daniel Stewart missed the game due to injury.
Mitchell will be available to play this week after recovering from an ankle complaint, but Stewart will miss at least one week with a hip injury.
While Mason Shaw had an improved showing in the ruck for South Adelaide on Saturday despite his struggle to impact up forward in boggy Noarlunga conditions, Sam Colquhoun had another blinder for Central District.
Development coach Tyson Edwards saw the game and was impressed with the young winger’s impact.
“Sammy played half back for the first half and then on the wing in the second,” Edwards told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“I was watching him very closely as he was our only player in the game and it was good to see his opponent not touch the ball in that half.
“He’s going to be a good player I think, he’s a natural footballer and I was pretty happy with the way he played.”
