PORT ADELAIDE will face the Gold Coast SUNS in a trial game under a change to the pre-season fixture.

The AFL had scheduled Port Adelaide to play Fremantle in Perth in a practice game but the two West Australian sides will now face off instead to fend off any uncertainty around border restrictions.

Port’s game against the SUNS will take place at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast from 3pm EDT or 2:30pm ACST on Friday 25 February and, in a bonus, will be broadcast live on Kayo Sports.

Kayo will stream all of the 2022 AFL Pre-Season practice matches exclusively.

Participating teams will be free to decide on the format of each game including number of players used, the number of quarters and quarter length.

AFL Head of Broadcasting and Scheduling Marcus King said the practice matches play an important role for both AFL Clubs and supporters.

“We’re pleased to partner with Kayo which will see all pre-season practice matches streamed live in 2022,” Mr King said.

“Our two objectives for pre-season practice matches are to give clubs the best opportunity to prepare ahead of the AAMI Community Series and to take matches to supporters in local and regional communities where possible.

“The practice matches will see football played around the country, including at regional and suburban venues such as Lavington Oval in Albury and Morwell Recreation Reserve, where fans will be able to watch their teams in action in their own backyard.”

Port Adelaide's AAMI Community Series match against Adelaide at Richmond Oval remains as originally fixtured.
