THE Port Adelaide Football Club has welcomed a new member-elected board member, announced at the club’s Annual General Meeting on Friday night.
Experienced football administrator Rob Snowdon won a majority of the votes cast in an independently-run election process and will have a three-year term.
For the first time the nominations were taken electronically with three candidates for the position.
“The sign of a healthy club is when passionate members run for a position on the board and we love the enthusiasm, we love the passion of all three nominations,” said Chairman David Koch while announcing Mr Snowdon’s election.
“We welcome Rob and I’m sure he’ll make a great contribution with his knowledge of the AFL and the Port Adelaide Football Club.”
Mr Snowdon has wide ranging board experience in numerous fields and formerly worked with the Sydney and Port Adelaide Football Clubs in football operations roles.
His tenure at the club as General Manager of Football Operations ran from its entry into the AFL in 1997 to 2002.
Mr Snowdon replaces the outgoing member-elect director Gavin Wanganeen - the first Indigenous director of an AFL Club - who has decided to step away from the board commitment after a three-year term to spend more time on his business interests and growing family.
Mr Wanganeen, one of Port Adelaide’s greatest ever players and the inaugural AFL Captain, will continue to serve on Port Adelaide’s football committee and as an ambassador of the club’s Community and Aboriginal programs.
Mr Koch thanked Wanganeen for his service and also paid tribute to Mr Andrew Day who ended his three-year tenure as an AFL-appointed director.
He also thanked Kevin Osborn, who is stepping down from his role as Deputy Chairman and announced that director Jamie Restas would fill the role going forward.
Mr Snowdon’s election came after members had 15 days, between Tuesday 1 February and Wednesday 16 February, to cast their vote.
The ballot process was independently conducted by Corpvote Pty Ltd to protect members’ privacy and ensure a fair and equitable result.
