PORT ADELAIDE has tied two of its brightest young stars to the club with Zak Butters and Connor Rozee agreeing terms on respective contract extensions.
In a week where the club has secured the future of seven other players, Butters and Rozee have each recommitted for a further two years, extending their time at Alberton until at least the end of the 2024 season.
Both players were drafted in 2018 – Rozee at pick 5 and Butters at pick 12 – and each have become fan favourites since they stepped onto the park for their respective AFL debuts in Round 1 2019.
List Manager Jason Cripps said Butters and Rozee were central to the young core of the club’s playing list.
“Zak and Connor bring an energy on and off the field that has become so important to our group,” he said.
“They have also become young leaders who drive standards and bring others along with them around the club.
“Injury interrupted Zak’s 2021 season but he is set to continue his development by spending more time in the midfield this year and we expect Connor to do the same as he continues to grow his game.”
Rozee has booted 59 goals across his 59-game career.
In his debut season in 2019, the 22-year-old was runner up in the AFL Rising Star award and took home both the Gavin Wanganeen Medal as best player under 21 and the club’s leading goalkicker.
Butters, 21, was awarded the Gavin Wanganeen Medal in 2020 and was part of the All-Australian squad that year.
He has played 48 games so far for 31 goals.
The exciting pair join fellow youngsters Josh Sinn, Dante Visentini and Ollie Lord and important quartet Dan Houston, Tom Clurey, Ryan Burton and Willem Drew in penning contract extensions this week.
