PORT Adelaide has concluded its SANFL pre-season with a 63-point loss to Adelaide at Alberton Oval on Saturday morning.
Port had narrow losses to Woodville-West Torrens and North Adelaide in its previous trial matches as it prepares to take on the Crows again on Friday night at Adelaide Oval.
Despite Dante Visentini opening the goalkicking for the game, it was all the Crows in the first quarter.
Lachlan Murphy responded, and even though Ethan Moore got Port’s second moments later, Adelaide kicked a further four more.
The Magpies could only watch as the Crows countered and pressed in the opening term, registering 11 scoring shots to lead by 24 points at the first change.
Adelaide continued to push Port with a further two majors from Matthew Wright and Shane McAdam to blow the margin out to 39 points.
Trent Dumont stopped the rot with his own snap out of a pack before Cam Wildman made it back-to-back goals in a flurry.
Jack Lewis slotted a steadier from Adelaide before Callum Saunders stepped up to keep Port in the game.
The two sides again went goal for goal, with Wildman slotting his second just before the break to ensure the Magpies trailed by only 26 points at the main change.
After Riley Thilthorpe missed an opportunity at the start of the third, it looked as if Port would storm back.
Ollie Lord thought he had kicked a goal which the goal umpire deemed touched, but Wildman didn’t suffer the same fate to bring the margin back to 20 points.
However, the Crows went on a run to kick four unanswered goals, with Lewis and Murphy doing plenty of the damage.
The Magpies trailed by 44 points at the final change.
It was the same story in the last quarter, with missed targets and opportunities for the hosts.
Nathan Freeman extended the Crows’ lead with another major before Dylan Williams converted after a mark in the square.
It would be the only highlight in an otherwise lacklustre final stanza for the Magpies as the Crows booted three further goals.
