TEN former Port Adelaide players have been named in The Advertiser's Greatest Team in SA Football History.

Compiled by Michelangelo Rucci, the team names five of the clubs former captains and coaches Geof Motley, John Cahill, Russell Ebert, Bob Quinn and Fos Williams as well as inaugural AFL captain and 1993 Brownlow Medallist Gavin Wanganeen.

Port Adelaide is the only club to have a player on five out of six lines on the field.

Wanganeen is named in the right back pocket, nine-time premiership player Motley on the right half-back flank, ten-time premiership coach Cahill on the left wing and four-time Magarey Medallist Ebert in the centre, and premiership captain/coach Bob Quinn in the right forward pocket.

Fos Williams, a nine-time premiership and multiple state representative and coach widely credited with laying the foundations for Port Adelaide's SANFL supremacy in the 1950s, is the coach of The Advertiser's team.

And when the voting was opened to the public, the club again had seven of its former players appear on the field.

Wanganeen, Motley and Ebert remained in their positions while John Cahill was moved to the bench, placed on the wing by Andrew McLeod who played in the club's 1994 SANFL premiership before being drafted to Fremantle and traded to the Crows.

He was also named as an emergency in The Advertiser's team.

Former premiership captain Greg Phillips was named as the fans' full back while Craig Bradley, a prodigious talent who was drafted to Carlton and crafted a name as one of the game's greatest players on the national stage, was named on the right wing.
