PORT ADELAIDE wingman/defender Riley Bonner and forward Orazio Fantasia are in contention to return from injury this weekend.
Fantasia had been expected to play his first game of the season at the weekend – having previously been the unused medical substitute for the win over North Melbourne in Hobart – but he experienced quad tightness late last week and sat out of the action.
The 26-year-old ran well on Monday and his condition will be assessed as the week progresses with a view to getting some game time this weekend.
Bonner is in line to return this week as he resumes training after spraining his right ankle in the Round 8 win over the Western Bulldogs.
Defender Trent McKenzie will resume full training next week with a view to being available for selection after the club’s AFL and SANFL byes.
Fellow backman Sam Skinner has been placed under the AFL’s concussion protocols following a knock to the head during the second quarter of Sundays SANFL win over West Adelaide. The mandatory 12-day concussion recovery protocol means he will be unavailable this weekend.
First-year player Josh Sinn continues to recover from bone stress in his pelvis, and will look to start running again next week, as he progresses towards a return to the field.
Port Adelaide will on Thursday evening name an extended squad side to take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Sunday twilight Sir Doug Nicholls Round action.
The 22-man side will be finalised on Friday afternoon.
