The AFL has confirmed the details for the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft Combine, with 10 South Australian footballers invited to attend the session in early June.
The Draft Combine brings together the best draft prospects at state-based events around the country, ahead of the NAB AFLW Draft.
Port Adelaide Next Generation Academy graduates and talented youngsters Sachi Syme and Keeley Kustermann are among the SA invitees.
North Adelaide’s Hannah Ewings, teammate Amelie Borg and Sturt’s Kiera Mueller have also been approached, with the trio set to participate in the SANFLW grand final this weekend.
This year’s Draft Combine will take place in 10 different locations, with 106 players invited from across the country. This total includes 78 players eligible for the Draft for the first time, and a further 28 open-age players.
The Draft Combine will feature one physical test, with all players to having to complete a two-kilometre time trial.
The reduction in testing at this year’s Combine takes into consideration changes to AFLW timelines, the significant amount of pre-season testing that was conducted nationally earlier this year and state league finals being staged in the lead up to the Draft.
AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan said players invited to the Draft Combine represented the next crop of AFLW stars.
“We are very excited about the high level of talent within this group of future stars of the AFLW,” Sheehan said.
“The 2022 version of the NAB AFLW Draft Combine will be shorter than those held in previous years, however the on-field performance of this group of players over the past season has provided a great indication that they will have a huge impact on the NAB AFLW competition.”
The Draft will take place on Wednesday 29 June, almost four weeks after the Draft Combine.
Port Adelaide is guaranteed at least the first two picks from South Australia, ahead of the Adelaide Crows.
