PORT ADELAIDE has reached the mid-season bye so we thought it was a perfect opportunity to reflect on the season so far and some of the key statistics.
After eleven games, Port Adelaide sits eleventh on the ladder with five wins and six losses. The club has had to come from a long way back, having lost its first five games of the season.
The Power’s defence is conceding an average of 70.9 points per game - the fourth stingiest defence in the competition behind Fremantle (60.4 points per game), Melbourne (61.3) and St Kilda (70).
In the front half, Port Adelaide has scored 818 points at an average of 74.4 per game. That ranks the club as 14th in the competition, with a percentage of 104.9 (10th best).
The club’s highest score of 18.9 (117) came against West Coast in Round 6 while its lowest 4.12 (36) came two weeks earlier against Melbourne.
After suffering a significant number of injuries in the opening rounds of the season, the club has used a total of 35 players already including six debutants (Jackson Mead, Jeremy Finlayson, Josh Sinn, Sam Skinner, Trent Dumont and Sam Hayes), while only 11 players have featured in all 11 games.
Port Adelaide’s leading goalkicker so far is Todd Marshall with 20.4 in 11 games. Marshall benefitted from the long-term absence of big man Charlie Dixon, who booted his first two goals in his first game of the season at the weekend.
The overall leader Coleman Medal leader is Carlton’s Charlie Curnow who has 37 goals from 11 games.

You might think a tall defender or strong forward would lead the marks category but for Port Adelaide it is mid-sized backman Dan Houston who leads the club in that space.
He has recorded 77 marks in 11 games, ranking him eighth in the AFL for total marks so far this season.
Port Adelaide is fifth overall for total marks with 1047. St Kilda is the top ranked side with 1088 marks so far in 2022.

Tackles are traditionally the domain of those constantly around the ball so it is no surprise that midfielders dominate that statistic at Port Adelaide
After ranking second in the competition in 2021 for tackles, Willem Drew again leads everyone at Port Adelaide in that area.
He has recorded 62 tackles in his 11 games, ranking him as sixth in the competition but just eight tackles behind St Kilda’s Brad Crouch. Interestingly Drew’s 62 tackles is exactly the same number he had to this point of last season, when he went on to finish with 164 for the year.
Overall Port Adelaide has recorded 647 tackles to rank fifth competition-wide. GWS is the competition leader with 682.

Sam Hayes ranks 10th in the AFL for hit-outs despite playing all of his seven career games this season. His 207 hit-outs is some way behind runaway leader Jarrod Witts of the Gold Coast who has 417 so far - 109 in front of the next closest (Reilly O’Brien of Adelaide with 308).
Port Adelaide’s next best for hit-outs is Scott Lycett with 96 from his five games before a shoulder injury ruled him out for a significant period and allowed Hayes an opportunity.
In terms of clearances, Travis Boak ranks fourth in the AFL with 78 including 46 from non-centre bounce stoppages. Ollie Wines is next best for Port with 46 while Zak Butters (45) and Willem Drew (43) aren’t far behind.
