ZAK Butters, Tom Clurey, Scott Lycett and Riley Bonner could each return from injury this weekend in the latest news from Port Adelaide’s medical team.
Butters has missed two games after suffering a sprained medial ligament in his left knee but trained well on Tuesday and is expected to be available for selection as long as he progresses through training on Thursday and Friday.
Clurey has also missed the games against Gold Coast and Fremantle – the first under the health and safety protocols and then with knee soreness – but is also expected to come into calculations to face Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night.
Lycett was close to resuming at the weekend after 10 weeks on the sidelines following shoulder surgery. The 29-year-old will take part in full training on Thursday with an expectation he will be available for selection.
Defender Bonner is also a chance to return following surgery on a fractured cheekbone and eye socket. He will need approval from the surgeon this week before being cleared to play.
Dan Houston and Xavier Duursma will each be assessed ahead of Saturday night’s game. Houston is expected to play despite suffering a knee hyperextension in the loss to the Dockers, while Duursma withdrew before the game as a precaution after experiencing quad tightness.
A hamstring strain will keep defender-turned-forward Lachie Jones out of this week’s game, but he will resume running later this week after being cleared of serious injury.
Orazio Fantasia won’t play this week and nor will Trent Dumont as they continue to build their training with a hope to returning soon.
Defender Sam Skinner and ruckman Sam Hayes have cleared the health and safety protocols and will also be available for selection.
Port Adelaide will on Thursday evening name its side to tackle the Giants on Saturday night.
The first bounce at Adelaide Oval is at 7:00pm ACST.
