TWO Port Adelaide and two Collingwood players have been fined by the Match Review Officer after involving themselves in a melee while two other Magpies players were also fined as a result of other incidents during Saturday’s clash at the MCG.
Jeremy Finlayson and Zak Butters have accepted $1000 penalties over their involvement in a melee involving several players during the first quarter of the match.
Magpies forward Jack Ginnivan and midfielder Taylor Adams were also cited and Ginnivan’s penalty is also $1000 if he enters an early guilty plea. It is the second time Adams has been charged with the same offence, meaning he will be fined $1500 even with an early guilty plea.
Collingwood’s Nick Daicos has also been offered a $1500 fine after being cited for striking Travis Boak before the opening bounce. Boak received a free kick and booted the opening goal of the game as a result of the incident.
And Magpies skipper Scott Pendlebury was also charged with rough conduct after an incident in the last quarter involving Port’s Sam Powell-Pepper.
The MRO classified Pendlebury’s actions as careless conduct of low impact but with high contact so the starting penalty is a $3000 fine, which can be reduced to a $2000 sanction if he pleads guilty to the charge.
