Barry Frost has been a Member for over 35 years…he talks to portadelaidefc.com.au about what it means to be a Member of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

How did you begin barracking for Port?

I moved to the Port Adelaide region and work colleagues showed me the way! They barracked for Port, so I followed.

What does Port Adelaide mean to you?

I am pleased to be a part of a successful club that supports other community activities.

What is your community involvement with the club?

I take part every Tuesday and Thursday in exercise classes conducted by ACH, a not-for-profit organisation supporting older South Australians. It is a group which was set up between ACH and the Power Community Ltd over a year ago to benefit members interested in maintaining fitness and wellbeing. The 10-week program is an opportunity for members to work through senior years in a healthy way. There are about 24 of us, ranging from 65-94. It is a great social opportunity to meet people and we do cake for everyone’s birthdays. It is a reason to get out and be involved with the club.

Were you at either of the ’04 and ’07 grand finals?

Yes I was at the second one and I have a good story about the first one. My neighbour was a passionate Port man and was desperate to go. So three friends and I were on our mobiles all morning to get the two tickets I was allocated with my membership, and we got them! I gave the two tickets to John, as we thought this might be his last chance to see a Grand Final, as he was growing old, and they won! It was amazing!

Who was your favourite player/is your current favourite player?

Scott Hodges was my favourite from the Magpies era, with his kicks from the impossible pocket. I don’t think you could go past Russell Ebert, he’s one of the greatest players we’ve ever had. Now I would say my favourite is Robbie Gray. He has that ability to do something that needs to be done at the right moment in the game.

First Port Adelaide memory?

Eric Freeman being rubbed out for calling Ken Aplin, a top umpire, a cheat. He had a free paid against him in a crucial semi final. Another one is the invincibility of the Magpies in that day before the rise of Sturt, which ended the reign.

Were you at the Adelaide Oval match?

Yes. The atmosphere at Adelaide Oval was probably as exciting as you can get, it was terrific.

How do you spend your time at the Port Club?

I love having a meal at the club; to support the club, eat surrounded by memorabilia, and we bring friends who aren’t Power supporters, and they are impressed. Our showcase for our history should be on show as much as we can.
