Tough-nut Matt Thomas put in a best on ground performance for Norwood to win the Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week award for Round 11.

Thomas will be pushing for selection in the Power side, after being out for more than a month with a foot injury he suffered in the Showdown.

The award is judged by Power development coaches, Daniel Healy and Darren Trevena, and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each Monday afternoon.

It was a solid round for the 11 Power players in action for their SANFL clubs. Here is the complete wrap-up…

Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Matt Thomas (for Norwood v Sturt at Unley)
A great game by Matt picking up 15 kicks, 15 handballs, 7 tackles, 6 clearances and 5 hardball gets. He played a genuinely tough game. He had a great presence around stoppages and gave Norwood a real chance in the game, either winning the footy or hunting the opponent down. His kicking and decision making was also very good. He’ll be a real chance for selection this week.

Adam Cockshell (for Norwood v Sturt at Unley)Played up forward and in the ruck but didn’t have the same influence on the game that he did last week. He did well in ruck, but Fabian was a bit big for him. He had 8 possessions and 4 marks.

Mitch Farmer (for Sturt v Norwood at Unley)Mitch played his first game after about five weeks off – including the state game and a bye – so for them to put him straight back into the league side, it was a good vote of confidence for Mitch. In just under three quarters on a wing and half forward he had 20 touches, which was impressive. He had 7 inside 50s, 4 tackles and 4 chases, so he looks really sharp. Sturt were really happy with him and most importantly he pulled up well.

Greg Bentley (for Sturt v Norwood at Unley)We’ve been into him about improving his defensive pressure to take his game to the next level and make sure he stands out. He did exactly that with 7 tackles, a few of which created goals on the turnover. He had 24 touches on ball and on the half forward flank. His kicking was also really impressive.

Fabian Deluca (for Sturt v Norwood at Unley)He continues to improve and dominated the ruck on the weekend. He had 28 hit-outs and took 4 marks including a big hanger. Sturt gave him third best back at the club so they’re really impressed with him after dropping him a few weeks ago.

Adam Thomson (for Sturt v Norwood at Unley)Wasn’t quite as impressive this week, he had 9 kicks and 10 handballs to go with 1.2. He had a bit more attention paid to him, but he was still steady without being a standout like last week.

Nick Salter (for Eagles v South at Noarlunga)Nick played at half forward and had 11 kicks, 3 marks and 6 handballs to go with 2 goals. He presented well, something he needs to continue to do, and he probably needs to be a bit hungrier at the ball to push more for selection.

Ryan Willits (for West v North at Prospect)He started at centre half-forward with Damon White on him. He had a good start taking 4 marks and kicking 2 points in the first quarter but fell away after that. He just needs to convert those goals early to get his day off to a good start.

Damon White (for North v West at Prospect)Although he had his hands full early on Willits, he became a very dominant player as the game went on. He had 28 possessions and 10 marks at centre half-back and ran well. He was probably North’s best player.

Nathan Lonie (for North v West at Prospect)Played on a wing and had 28 touches in a hard running display. He used the ball well and had a big impact on the game. He continues to play good football and push for selection.

Marlon Motlop (for North reserves v West reserves at Prospect)Marlon was dropped down to the reserves and played half forward and on the ball. He had 22 possessions and impressively he had 6 chases and 3 tackles. He ran a couple of guys down and caused a couple of turnovers for his team that led to goals. He also kicked 2 goals.

Gavin Grose (for North reserves v West reserves at Prospect)Gav played at full forward and half forward and kicked 4 goals. He looked really dangerous at times, which was impressive. Gav got play of the round for a great chase where he chased a guy down, ripped the ball out of his hands and kicked a great checkside from near the point post.
