PORT ADELAIDE defender Indy Tahau feels conflicted by Sunday’s drawn match against Carlton, with both positives and negatives to be taken from the result.

“It’s a pretty frustrating result to have a draw, but there are so many great positives to take out of the game and the last two games (before that),” Tahau said.

“We're definitely building, but it is a frustrating result. We definitely haven’t celebrated the draw, that’s for sure.”

The former Brisbane Lion can see her new side continue to grow in belief and cohesion on-field.

“I think it’s probably down to our belief…we've had so much belief that we do have the ball movement and the skill to execute a good four-quarter game,” she said.

“We’re just in that building stage where we’ve almost got it. I think the most growth we’ve probably (shown was in) the second quarter of the Carlton game on the weekend.

“I think it’s just a matter of understanding the opportunity that we have at half time and that (if) we have that lead, we just need to…not go into save-game mode and get defensive. We just need to take on those risks and keep building and push those last quarters out.”

Tahau’s strong individual performance in Round Three was rewarded through her selection in the AFLW Team of the Week’s backline.

But despite the 19-year-old collecting 10 disposals, three marks and four tackles, she’s more focused on team performance and the significance of being part of the first AFLW team to don the black, white and teal.

“I was pretty pleased with my performance on the weekend, I was able to play my role for the team quite well and fit in nicely, but there’s been a lot of exciting things that have happened (since arriving at Port Adelaide),” she said.

“There’s been the first ever Port Adelaide game, the first ever home game, there’s been a lot of great first-time things. Being at Port so far has treated me really well and I think it’s a very good step for my career.”

This weekend’s match against Sydney will continue the firsts for Tahau; the club’s first AFLW Indigenous Round game, and the first time playing another expansion team.

“I’m super excited for this weekend,” she said.

“I think our first ever Indigenous Round is going to be crazy, hopefully we can pack it out at 5000 again. It’s just an opportunity to showcase our First Nations people and the First Nations people in our team, of which we have three with the (Cockatoo-Motlap) twins and Gemma (Houghton).

“We'll have our oppo(sition) analysis tonight against Sydney, so I reckon they will be a very competitive side and they will be looking for their first ever win, just like we are.

“It will be a very contested footy match. It’s very important to not underestimate them, and for them to not underestimate us, so it will be very hot footy on the weekend.”

Tahau urged members and fans to secure their tickets for Saturday’s game to avoid disappointment.

“The first ever Indigenous Round here, it’s going to be a very important and special game –  there's only four days left now so jump on and grab your tickets as soon as you can,” she said.

Saturday’s match against Sydney begins at 12:40pm ACST at Alberton Oval.
