PORT ADELAIDE’s Mitch Georgiades has claimed 2022’s Mark of the Year for his sensational grab against Fremantle in Round 16.
The athletic youngster had Optus Stadium – and the footy world – in awe after rising up to a ridiculous height on the eve of the three-quarter time siren.
Jeremy Finlayson swung onto his left boot and dropped the ball in deep into the pocket, begging for a high-flyer to rise above the pack and claim the mark.
Georgiades certainly delivered – timing his run-up flawlessly and launching himself off the shoulders Brennan Cox, turning the Fremantle defender into a springboard.
Perfectly meeting the ball at his apex, Georgiades secured the Sherrin with a strong set of hands in mid-air and found himself bracing for a long trip back down to the grass.
He completed the match with two goals and another six marks.
Georgiades was one of three finalists for the award alongside Greater Western Sydney’s Toby Greene and Melbourne’s Charlie Spargo.
It is the second time a Port Adelaide player has won Mark of the Year, joining Chad Wingard’s 2014 screamer against St Kilda.
Georgiades was presented with the Alex Jesaulenko Medal during Sunday evening’s Brownlow Medal Count.
