CHAD WINGARD will be assessed prior to selection this week after a delayed concussion from Saturday night.

Wingard was collected in an on-field clash during the Power’s 48-point loss to Geelong and was checked by club medical staff at three-quarter time.

The dual All-Australian played out the game having presented no adverse symptoms, but further tests taken after the game indicated Wingard was beginning to experience a delayed concussion.

The Power’s head of high performance Darren Burgess says the 22-year-old will be assessed again during the week.

“Chad was checked at three-quarter time and showed no signs of concussion,” Burgess told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“We checked him again after the match as a precaution and he was showing signs of a delayed concussion.

“His safety is obviously our priority. We’ll review him again this week and if he hasn’t improved we’ll keep him out of Round 6.”

Will Snelling will also be sent for checks this week after fracturing a foot against Central District in the SANFL.

The rookie midfielder will miss an indefinite period of time irrespective of whether he has surgery.

“Snelling will visit our foot specialist this week, but we expect him to be out for a while whether we operate or not,” Burgess said.
