LAUREN ARNELL has just completed her first season as Port Adelaide’s AFLW senior coach but there has been little time for rest as she steps into a role in the men’s program.
Arnell came to Alberton after being appointed the club’s inaugural AFLW senior coach in April, guiding the side through its history-making debut campaign.
The 35-year-old created history herself, becoming the first past AFLW player to become a senior coach in the competition.
During the AFLW off-season, Arnell is joining the men’s coaching group to work with the AFL side throughout the week as well as taking on a gameday role coaching the forwards in the SANFL program.
“Lauren has impressed us all with the way she has come in and helped build a competitive side in such a short space of time,” said Port Adelaide SANFL and Next Generation Academy Manager Shane Grimm.
“She has been able to build strong relationships within the playing group and wider football department, and her passion for the game and desire to help others get better have really stood out to us.
“We’re looking forward to the fresh perspective she will bring to our men’s program and we know she will add value within our coaching group.”
Along with Arnell, new SANFL senior coach Tyson Goldsack will be supported by AFL development coach Hamish Hartlett (backline), while Jace Bode will continue to work with the midfielders with an extra focus on the club’s SANFL contracted players.
