Port Adelaide has claimed towering West Adelaide forward Tom Scully with its second pick in the 2022 NAB AFL National Draft on Tuesday night.

The 203cm big man heard his name called with pick 53 following another Tom to Alberton with Tasmanian backman Tom McCallum taken with pick 36.

Scully was a dominant forward for the Bloods in the SANFL under 18 competition with 50 goals in 14 matches, earning a name for himself as a strong-marking and accurate target.

He had 37 goals after the first seven games, including three bags of seven majors and one of six.

The 18-year-old’s strong season saw him rewarded with selection in the AFL Academy team as well as two finals for West Adelaide’s reserves.

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan says:

A tall forward who had a wonderful start to the 2022 season, with his overhead marking and accuracy around goals earning him a call up to AFL Academy team that represented Australia. He showed glimpses of his sizable potential up forward as a marking target during that match against Collingwood’s VFL side in May. He booted 50 goals in 14 matches for West Adelaide in the SANFL under-18s, as well as playing one game for South Australia at the 2022 NAB AFL National Championships U18 Boys.
