Port Adelaide qualifies for 2013 AFL Finals Series
Port Adelaide will play in the 2013 AFL Finals Series after eighth place on the ladder was secured on Saturday night.
Despite the Power's disappointing result against Fremantle on Saturday night, Carlton's simultaneous loss to Essendon at the MCG secures Port Adelaide's place in the top eight with one game remaining.
Port Adelaide currently has 12 wins for the season.
Senior coach Ken Hinkley said despite losing against a "genuine top four" side in Fremantle on Saturday, he is pleased to have young side rewarded with the opportunity to play finals.
"Obviously I'm disappointed about tonight, but as long as we learn from it that's okay - we didn't expect to win every game of footy," said Hinkley.
"But as a footy club we've qualified in our own right (to play finals).
"I've said all year it's a full footy season, you've got to play the whole season and then whatever happens will happen.
"Right now, we rightly deserve to be part of the final eight."
Hinkley described the finals qualification as a recognition of his young side's effort throughout the year.
"It's recognition for effort for these young blokes who we've taken on," said Hinkley.
"They're the ones who've had to do all the hard work!"

Port Adelaide chief executive officer Keith Thomas echoed the senior coach's sentiments and praised the year-long performance of the Power playing group.
“There were some big changes to the club’s footy department before the start of the year and we’re all very proud of the work the team has put in this year," said Mr Thomas.
“The players have been the ones that go out every week and put in the hard yards.
"We're all proud of the way they've earned a place in the finals this year through the really positive way they've gone about their footy.”
The club is calling on all supporters to be at the final ever home-and-away game at AAMI Stadium on August 31 at 4:10pm.
In that game, Port Adelaide will recognise 40 years of dominance at the ground by wearing its traditional black and white prison bar guernsey against Carlton.

A long schedule of events has been planned for the match, including a past legends curtain raiser and guard-of-honour before the game.
“We want all our fans to say goodbye to AAMI Stadium with us – we want a big crowd on Saturday!” says Thomas.
“It’s going to be a massive occasion for the club and a big opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of our many past players who helped make this club famous.”
With Port Adelaide set to call Adelaide Oval its new home from 2014, the club is also offering a Football Club membership for $75, which will secure priority seat access for the new stadium as well as a ticket to the Round 23 game against the Blues.
