PORT ADELAIDE pair Gemma Houghton and Maria Moloney have signed on to stay at the club for a further two years.
The reliable duo were important components of the inaugural side in Season 7 and their contract extensions will see them remain at Alberton until the end of 2024.
Marquee signing Houghton was one of the first players to commit to Port Adelaide’s AFLW list, making the move after six seasons with Fremantle.
The key forward created a history-making moment in Round 1 when she kicked the Power’s first goal in the AFLW competition.
She went on to kick four goals from four games, but unfortunately missed a chunk of the season with injury.
The two-time All-Australian celebrated her 50th league game in Round 9 last year and is now back at full fitness, raring to go for the upcoming season.
Moloney was recruited from Brisbane and starred in the midfield in Season 7 with her tough, no-fear brand of football.
Ranking second in the side for tackles after her inaugural Port Adelaide campaign, Moloney also contributed with an average of 10.4 disposals and two goals across 10 games.
The strong inside midfielder made her AFLW debut in 2020 and has since recorded 21 matches between two clubs.
List manager Naomi Maidment is pleased to have secured a further commitment from the talented pair.
“We are delighted to see Gemma and Maria stay Port Adelaide players for another two seasons,” Maidment said.
“Signing Gemma was a huge coup for us in our inaugural season and she is a core part of our list and will continue to be into the future. She is definitely a fan-favourite and we are excited to see what she will produce on field this year.
“It’s also been a pleasure watching Maria flourish since her move to Alberton.
“She approaches her footy the Port Adelaide way and has been a reliable, stable presence in our midfield.
“Both players are also fantastic people and are an important part of the culture at our club.”
The AFLW sign and trade period will close on Monday, March 20 at 3pm AEDT.
