1. He does stuff like this.
Captain getting attention? Forget the ankle injury...
2. He's actually statistically excellent
No seriously.
He's averaging 17.8 disposals a game as a defender at an 83.1% effective rate.
Against the Dees, well, it's hard to argue with his game from a statistical perspective:
23 disposals (78% effective), 8 marks, 4 inside-50s, 3 rebound-50s, 1 goal, 486 metres gained - that's what most people would call a good game.
3. In general, he's been one of his side's most consistent players
Statistics are good, but playing a team role is even more important.
Whether winning or losing, DBJ has been around the mark each week, while other players have enjoyed the peaks and troughs of form, he's been a rock of consistency.
.@AFL just letting you know @DarcyByrneJones is eligible for the rising star. #AFLDeesPower

4. He's basically come from nowhere to cement his spot
Rising Stars tend to be thought of as high draft picks who come straight in and play incredible high-disposal games.
Darcy Byrne-Jones has spent a fair chunk of time developing after being taken at pick 52 in the 2013 draft, but now he's starting to reap the rewards for knuckling down and performing well over the pre-season.
This is what Ken Hinkley said about Byrne-Jones after the game on Saturday:
"He's played eight of the best first games you'll ever see, and he still hasn't got the nod. It's quite strange. I 'spose he's a late pick, maybe that's why, I'm not sure. He deserves to be acknowledged that he's had eight great games."
"I hope that doesn't put the mozz on him, but he's been really good for us."
5. People actually rate his game
Like, the journalists. The journalists rate him...
Darcy Byrne-Jones will be stiff not to get his rising star nom this week. Absolute dominating against the Dees. Giving Garlett a bath.

Charlie Dixon on track to kick 57 goals. Not a bad return for a player who has been questioned at times. Byrne-Jones should get RS nod.

And his name...
With a name like Darcy Byrne-Jones, how did he not end up at Melbourne? #afldeespower
