PORT ADELAIDE has secured versatile midfielder Jasmin Stewart with the club’s first pick (pick two overall) in the AFLW Supplementary Draft.
A proud Jaru woman from Western Australia, Stewart played 22 games for Fremantle before stepping away from football in April 2022 to focus on life outside of football.
Initially drafted by the Dockers in 2018 as its first pick (pick four overall), Stewart joins fellow former club-mates Gemma Houghton, Janelle Cuthbertson, Jade De Melo and Maggie MacLachlan at Alberton.
After leaving the AFLW, she returned to WAFLW club Claremont and was awarded the best on ground medal in her side’s winning grand final with 29 disposals, eight tackles and three inside 50s.
The 24-year-old left-footer is ready for return to elite sport and is the first of three picks the Power needs to complete its list for the 2023 season.
Port Adelaide List Manager Naomi Maidment said:
Jasmin is a really hard inside midfielder with an elite left foot kick. She has Port Adelaide traits through and through – she’s a hard tackler, wins her own footy, competes hard and has played in a successful AFLW team at Fremantle. Being in her mid-20s, she is at a great age to complement our group, where she has had good life experience but also has a huge future in football to come. She is also mature and realistic about the resilience required at this level.
