PORT ADELAIDE has selected zippy mid-forward Katelyn Pope as its second pick (pick 12 overall) at the AFLW Supplementary Draft.
Native South Australian Pope was signed by West Coast as an injury replacement player in 2021, making her AFLW debut in Round 2, and going on to play six games that season.
The 27-year-old was invited as a training partner with Port Adelaide in Season 7, after showing promise with North Adelaide in the SANFLW.
As part of the Roosters’ premiership campaign in 2022, she averaged 17.2 disposals, 4.2 tackles and 3.4 inside 50s for the season.
Her 2023 SANFLW season has seen her take another step up, averaging an impressive 19.8 disposals from six games.
Pope has extensive elite sport experience, having played cricket for both the SA Scorpions and the Adelaide Strikers.
Port Adelaide List Manager Naomi Maidment said:
Katelyn is having a really dominant SANFLW season so far this year. She’s a hard-working player, and her running capacity and speed are her main strengths. She’s a left-footer who has been playing mostly on the wing for North Adelaide. We had her as a train-on player last year and we were impressed with how she applied herself and played in match simulations, and we think she deserves another crack at AFLW level.
