PORT Adelaide is set to add NSW Scholarship player Jordan Johns to its rookie list ahead of the 2010 season.

Johns, 18, was signed under the scholarship program two years ago while playing in Broken Hill.

The 186cm, 74kg, utility has represented NSW/ACT at the NAB AFL Under-18  Championships in each of the past two years as well as playing seniors for South Broken Hill.

He also made an impressive debut for the South Adelaide reserves during the school holidays in July, gathering 16 disposals across half-forward.

The Power have the option of adding Johns to either their senior or rookie list ahead of next month’s NAB AFL Draft and football manager Peter Rohde said it was likely the promising teenager would join the club full-time as a rookie.

"We haven’t made a final decision yet. [Coach] Mark Williams is overseas until next week, so will sit down and make that final decision over the next week or two, but it’s likely we’ll pursue Jordan as a rookie," Rohde told AFL.com.au.

"Jordan has come along well. He played in the U18 National Championships for NSW/ACT and he played really well in that. He did 3-4 weeks of training with us last year as well, so we’ve seen a fair bit of him. He’s certainly impressed us with his work ethic and everything.

"He’ll be looking forward to getting down here and getting into an AFL environment full-time."

Basketball convert Daniel Bass is the only confirmed player on the club’s rookie list for next season.

Key-forward/ruckman Daniel Stewart has been elevated to the senior list, while untried duo Matthew Martin and Jesse Laurie have been delisted.

Richmond discard Danny Meyer and livewire Wade Thompson, who both made their Power debuts in 2009, will be retained by the club but it remains unclear whether either rookie will be promoted to the senior list.

Port Adelaide has committed to using three picks (8, 9 and 16) in the upcoming NAB AFL Draft, but Rohde said the club hadn’t yet decided on what to do with the remaining fourth spot on its primary list.

Last week, recruiting manager Blair Hartley suggested the Power would use its fourth pick to secure a mature-age ruckman as support for Dean Brogan.

Rohde said the club had some mature-age recruits in mind and would use the next week to weigh up all its options.

"We haven’t finalised all that yet. We’ll talk about whether we use it [the fourth pick] in the national draft, upgrade another rookie or save it for the pre-season draft," he said.

"We’re confident Matthew Lobbe, Jackson Trengove and those guys can play in the ruck for us next year, but it’s fair to say we’re still looking around and considering some other mature ruck options.

"That will also help us to determine whether we upgrade another rookie or not."

Only three players with a decent amount of AFL ruck experience - Fremantle's Daniel Gilmore, Western Bulldog Wayde Skipper and Collingwood's Chris Bryan - have been delisted by other clubs meaning the Power might look to the local leagues.

Sturt ruckman Angus Kurtze was invited to attend the SA state screening session earlier this month and could be an option, despite being dropped for the SANFL club’s last two finals.
