Port Adelaide has welcomed eight talented footballers to train alongside the AFLW team as training partners for 2023.

The group comprises Tahlita Beuthke (Norwood), Caitlin Wendland (Centrals), Elise Barwick (South Adelaide), Tesharna Maher (Norwood), Kaitey Whittaker (Norwood), Brooklyn Kraft (Woodville-West Torrens), Georgia Swan (Sturt) and Georgie Pater (West Adelaide).

These promising young SANFLW players were selected by Port Adelaide list manager Naomi Maidment to support their development by exposing them to a high-performance environment.

It also gives them an opportunity to be considered more seriously for a possible future AFLW contract, not unlike recent draftee Katelyn Pope.

Pope was one of seven train-ons who joined the Power throughout the side’s inaugural season for one training session per week.

Her zippy pace and left-foot kick soon caught the eyes of coaches, and she was subsequently picked up by the club at the supplementary draft in April.

“Being selected as a training partner is a great opportunity for players looking to pursue football at the elite level,” Maidment said.

“The great thing is that Katelyn’s story is not unique – players all around the country have been offered AFLW contracts through their involvement as a training partner.

“It’s a fantastic way for list managers and coaches to get to know these athletes on and off the field and to see how they perform against some of the top players in the competition.

“We are excited to welcome our eight new train-on players for 2023 and look forward to watching them grow in our program.”
