LIFELONG Port Adelaide supporter Craig McKay gives us his best five players from the clash against the Pies.
Macca's Top Five
Jack Hombsch - What a star! Absolutely dominated Travis Cloke. Is that the best game he's played in his career to date? I think it might be. Took a number of crucial marks from opposition kicks and just kept on Cloke's hammer all night. His closing speed is something I think a lot of us underrate, just has a wonderful way of getting a fist in and spoiling the ball on a lead. Worked well in tandem with Trengove, where Trengove was often taking Cloke further up the field and leaving Hombsch as a loose man in case of a counter attack. I'm more excited to see where Jack's career goes than any other Port player. Could be anything.
Hombsch stood tall - Broadbent
Ollie Wines - A magical performance. Clearly emotionally effected by the passing of Phil Walsh after the game and you could see how much the win meant to him. Just dominated around the stoppages and I thought he performed a great role on Pendlebury who didnt have the influence he normally does around the packs. The wet weather played into Ollie's hands and he didnt let himself, or his former mentor down. His best game for the year and right up there with the best in his career to date.
Angus Monfries - Finally off the leash and what a result that was! 23 touches, a goal, 7 tackles, he did it all last night. Worked super hard up the field. Ran Oxley off his feet who has been one of the most improved players in the competition this season. Whilst his versatility to play a pure shut down role is handy and he always performs it well, I can't help but think he is more useful for the team and specifically the forward line when he is allowed to play his own game a bit more.
Justin Westhoff - A story of two halves really. Was absolute lightning in that first half. 22 touches to half time, he was best on ground by a mile to that point. Then he got kneed in the face multiple times by a peanut and had no real influence on the game after that, just the 4 touches for the rest of the match. It's a pity as he was having one of those special games that he has every so often. Still, he was the firestarter that got us going early in the game. Top game.
What We Learned from Round 15
Chad Wingard - The master does it again. 21 & 3, the most consistent player in the competition. Was wasteful early and the game could have almost been over at 1/4 time had his radar been on target. Recovered from those early misses and put in a top team effort. Was all over the place up forward, Collingwood tried a number of players but they couldnt handle his speed and skill.
