PORT ADELAIDE will be throwing it back to the late 90’s and early 2000’s for the club’s Retro Round on Sunday against the Giants.

To celebrate, for the first time in 20 years the iconic ‘Tri Bolt’ guernsey will make a return on-field for one round only, with the nostalgic design also available to purchase in-store, online and at the game.

The fan favourite playing strip featured amongst Port Adelaide’s original AFL uniforms, after being unveiled at the ‘First of the Firsts’ event where the club revealed its AFL branding for the first time in front of a packed Entertainment Centre crowd and live on Channel 7.

First worn in a trial game against Richmond during the Ansett Cup pre-season competition in 1998, the design went on to be part of the club’s pre-season look for several years. Worn during the pre-season Grand Final success of 2001 and 2002, the kit soon became so popular with supporters that it was eventually adopted as the clash guernsey for the 2003 season.

Carefully replicated in partnership with Macron, the 2023 edition mirrors the distinct three-tone lightning bolt pattern on the front of the guernsey, with Port Adelaide’s iconic number square holding the box type black numbers with a teal outline on the back, which was unique to the 1998 season.

The nostalgia is sure to come flooding back as the retro range sparks memories of the club’s early AFL era stars such as Matthew Primus, Josh Francou and Roger James, as well as cult heroes Donald Dickie, Darryl Poole, and Scott Cummings.

Also in the range is the era specific spray jacket, and a 1998-model Port Adelaide hat first made recognisable by former Power star Hamish Hartlett.

Fans can get their hands on the full Retro Range in the Port Store at Alberton from Tuesday 8 August and online now, with a limited number of each item also available at the game.

Supporters are also encouraged to get into the spirit of Retro Round by wearing their best nostalgic fits to Sunday’s game, with a special light show to form part of the game day activities.

Tickets to the Round 22 retro clash against the Giants on Sunday, August 13 at 4.10pm are still available.
