Ben Newton transferred to Magpies
Port Adelaide confirms Ben Newton has become aligned to its SANFL side following a completed transfer.
Newton, 20, was aligned to West during the 2011 SANFL mini draft and played the majority of last season in the Bloods reserves side.
But the pursuit of better development opportunities has seen Newton come across to the Magpies for the 2013 season.
General manager – football, Peter Rohde, told portadelaidefc.com.au the opportunity for Newton to play consistent League football as the core reason for negotiating the transfer.
“In Ben’s case it’s his third season and he’s played one League game in that time,” said Rohde.
“Westies have certainly supported him in that time but we feel he will get more senior opportunities in the roles we want him to play at the Magpies.
“We’re hoping that we can get him opportunity to play regular, senior games there and see where that leads to for him.”
Newton’s confirmed move follows that of rookie-listed Danny Butcher, who was transferred to the Magpies from North Adelaide several weeks ago.
